Democracy is a system of government in which the people, through their votes and representatives, govern themselves. Democratic governance—of the people, and by the people—is a fundamental principle of our constitutional system. Public opinion and public action are the source of government in a democratic country, such as ours. Democracy is a beautiful promise—in that it means the future is all up to us. Any problems in our government or society are created by people, and we can solve them with people power—by participating in and changing the course of our democracy and so our future.
