Administrative law refers to the laws and legal principles that govern the exercise of authority by government agencies, which carry out much of the work that government does. Administrative law provides the legal framework for the powers, organization, duties, and functions of public authorities—such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, which administers federal securities laws, the Federal Election Commission, which administers campaign finance laws, and the Environmental Protection Agency, which administers federal environmental laws.
