KWHS is excited that our PwC-KWHS Seminar for High School Educators on Business and Financial Responsibility is expanding into Chicago on October 9, 2015. In the meantime, we will be introducing a few of the Midwest teacher attendees who are champions of high school financial literacy and business education.

Kimberly Davis is a teacher at Harrison High School in Harrison, Mississippi. Kim loves her school, and though resources are scarce, she is doing everything she can to make sure her students are ready for the financial issues of the real world. Kim teaches economics in a nine-week class, four times a year. Her economics students complete nine online personal finance modules to enhance their money-management skills, in addition to learning micro and macro economics.

Kim is always looking for new ways to bring financial literacy to her classroom. Her students are most engaged, she says, when they participate in unique and interesting lessons. Kim believes that the timing of the PwC-KWHS Seminar for High School Educators on Business and Financial Responsibility is ideal. Mississippi State Treasurer Lynn Finch recently announced efforts to improve financial literacy in the state. Economics is a graduation requirement in Mississippi, and making the most of the state-driven initiatives will ensure that all students graduate with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their finances.

Kim is thrilled to be attending the Knowledge@Wharton High School-PwC professional-development seminar. She is looking forward to collaborating with other educators, learning about the resources available to teachers seeking to engage their students in financial literacy, and acquiring new skills to plan out her rigorous nine-week economics class. Kim notes, “Not only am I excited to learn the KWHS financial literacy curriculum, I am also looking forward to finding out what other teachers are doing, how they approach this topic and how other states run their economics programs.”

To date, PwC and Knowledge@Wharton High School have had the pleasure of meeting and working with more than 700 high school business and personal finance educators like Kim Davis through our Seminars for High School Educators at Wharton campuses in Philadelphia and San Francisco.
